Założenia programowe konferencji:
W 2014 roku upłynęło 40 lat od historycznego spotkania antropologów zrzeszonych w The American Anthropological Association, którzy podczas konferencji w Mexico City dali podwaliny dla powstania nowej specjalizacji: antropologii turystyki. Prawie pół wieku doświadczeń to dobry moment na podsumowanie najważniejszych nurtów i wskazanie kluczowych problemów, które legły u podstaw badania turystyki z perspektywy antropologicznej. Rozwój antropologii turystyki pokazuje, jak ważnym elementem kultury stało się w ostatnich kilkudziesięciu latach podróżowanie, zarówno w wymiarze fizycznego przemieszczania się, jak i wędrówek wirtualnych.
Konferencja jest również związana z 40. rocznicą kształcenia studentów na Wydziale Turystyki i Rekreacji krakowskiej AWF.
Cele konferencji:
Celem konferencji jest nakreślenie ram antropologii turystyki. Podróże stają się coraz ważniejszą częścią życia ludzkiego. Relacja człowiek a kultura w kontekście turystyki i podróżowania pozwala dostrzec szereg fenomenów, które stanowią o specyfice życia w XXI wieku.
Podstawowym założeniem przyjętym przez organizatorów jest próba znalezienia płaszczyzny dialogu badaczy należących do różnych pokoleń i często reprezentujących różne dyscypliny nauk humanistycznych i społecznych. Centralną osią dyskusji ma być relacja człowiek-kultura-świat w kontekście podróżowania i turystyki. Konferencja ma za zadanie nie tylko przedstawić teorie i koncepcje, które od dawna traktowane są jako paradygmatyczne dla antropologii turystyki, lecz także skonfrontować je z najnowszymi, nierzadko krytycznymi ujęciami. Tak, jak podróżowanie jest zjawiskiem dynamicznym, tak i antropologia turystyki postrzegana być może jako proces ścierania się poglądów, założeń i wyników badań, co przybliża nas do lepszego zrozumienia istnienia człowieka w świecie.
Szczególną częścią konferencji będą „Warsztaty Mistrzów” – sesje dyskusyjne, poświęcone konkretnemu problemowi, które zostaną poprowadzę przez wybitnych badaczy turystyki, takich jak prof. Nelson Graburn. Planowana jest również specjalna „Szkoła Adeptów”, czyli panel studencko-doktorancki, podczas którego młodzi uczeni będą mogli zaprezentować swoje dotychczasowe osiągnięcia i skonsultować je z bardziej doświadczonymi naukowcami.

Autorzy, których propozycje nie zostaną zakwalifikowane zostaną poinformowani o dalszych możliwościach wydania ich tekstów.

About the conference:
In 2014 we are celebrating 40 years since the conference of the anthropologists associated with The American Anthropological Association in Mexico City, that gave the basis for the establishment of the anthropology of tourism. After several decades, it is a good moment to summarize the most important directions of anthropological research on tourism, as well as pointing out the key issues which have created the background for studying tourism within this perspective. The development of the anthropology of tourism shows that travelling has become one of the crucial elements of culture, both in the dimension of physical mobility and virtual trips.
We are also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Faculty of Tourism and Leisure at the University of Physical Education in Krakow. The creation of this faculty began the process of educating students with majors in Tourism and Leisure, which mobilized Poland's second MA degree programme in this field, including cultural and humanistic foundations of tourism.
Objectives of the conference:
The aim of the conference is to outline the scope of the anthropology of tourism. As travels have become more and more important part of human's life, the relationship between a human being and culture in the context of travelling and tourism enables to distinguish several phenomena that decide about the specifics of life in the 21st century.
The basic assumption adopted by the organisers is to find a dialogue between researchers belonging to different generations and often representing various disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The central axis of the debate will be the relationship between a human being, culture and the world in the context of travel and tourism. The conference is designed not only to present theories and concepts that have long been regarded as paradigmatic for the anthropology of tourism, but also to confront them with the latest, often critical viewpoints. As travelling is a dynamic phenomenon, the anthropology of tourism can be seen as a process of clashing ideas, opinions, and research findings, which brings us to a better understanding of human existence in the world.
A special part of the conference will be "The Master Classes", workshops and debates, devoted to a specific issue, which will be led by eminent scholars of tourism such as prof. Nelson Graburn. A notable "School of Adepts" is also planned, as a panel for students and PhD candidates, during which young researchers will be able to present their achievements and consult them with more experienced scholars.

The best papers will be published in special, thematic issues of scientific journal „Folia Turistica” (indexed in Ministry of Science and Higher Education List B, both with 7 points), in Polish or English language version. The authors whose proposals will not meet the requirements of editorials boards of the above-mentioned journals will be informed about other possibilities of publishing their papers.
