Does gender equality foster new paths for social and economic development? – A tourism perspective

Miejsce:
University of Aveiro, Portugal
Termin:
7-10 maja 2014
Organizator:
University of Aveiro

Problematyka konferencji:
Tourism has become the world’s leading industry. In a world characterized by recession, tourism continues to grow and it is foreseen that will continue to expand in the future. The importance paid by governments to tourism has also spread downwards in the administration. While tourism policies used to be designed by national agencies, regional and local level organisations nowadays pay increasing importance to the tourism sector.
When tourists travel, engines of development are geared. Tourists sleep, eat, travel, and consume cultural and recreational activities. But their level of interaction is growingly spreading well beyond the limits of the ‘traditional’ economic activities. The scope of tourism is enlarging and is percolating in local economies. Nowadays, tourists also consume health, science, residences … and push destinations to new forms of exportation, productions, innovation, education, behavior, planning, etc. When tourists travel… they help to build new societies… they are undoubtedly a new engine pushing forward the creation of new societies and of a new world.
The objective of INVTUR 2014 is to build ground for a fruitful debate on the impact emerging from tourism and from the interaction between hosts and guests. The editions of the INVTUR conference, held by the University of Aveiro (Portugal), have become a place where hundreds of academics, scientists and practitioners coming from many countries around the world meet and interact in a modern and remarkable university campus. The lovely town of Aveiro and the social events offered by the conferences also set the scene for a memorable stay that participants always take back home in their minds.
